As we start into the second half of 2011, we are clearly climbing deeper and deeper into the Internet age. A growing trend on the Internet in the past few years has been the rise of online job searching. More and more Americans are searching for and, more importantly, finding jobs online. The rise of online job seekers has pushed corporations to aggressively pursue potential employees on the internet.
Now is the jobseekers’ time to capitalize on the massive amount of jobs online. A 2011 report from Career Xroads shows that in 2010, there were two definitive statistics that every job seeker should know.
1. Online job searching accounts for almost half of total hires in the US. Statistics show that 24.9% of hires in 2010 were filled by job boards. 18.8% of hires in 2010 were filled by online career sites. In total, 43.7% of hires were filled in 2010 by online job seekers. That’s close to half of all total job seekers finding employment online. 2. Referrals are the #1 way to find a job in today’s market. In the same report, 27.5% jobs are filled by referrals. You’ve heard it all the time: “networking, networking, networking.” It seems that the number one way to get hired is to know someone, and therefore job seekers should definitely try and network wherever possible.
